Business Interruption Insurance.
Beyond the repair.
Plan for recovery.

Repairing damaged premises does not always restore trading straight away. Business interruption insurance can address selected financial losses following an insured event. We help you discuss the recovery time and financial information that matter to your business.

Think about the whole route back to trading.

Rebuilding, replacing specialist equipment and winning customers back can take different amounts of time. Talk through those stages with us. The cover selected needs to reflect the policy’s definitions and trigger, the financial basis used and the maximum period of protection.

Cover options to discuss

Lost income or gross profit

The financial basis depends on the policy. An insurance definition of gross profit may differ from your accounts, so work from the wording rather than assuming the figures are interchangeable.

Additional working costs

Ask how extra expenditure to keep trading is treated, including any limits and conditions. Temporary premises or alternative arrangements should not be assumed to be fully reimbursed.

Recovery period and extensions

Discuss a realistic indemnity period and dependencies such as suppliers or utilities. Extensions must be checked individually; they are not automatic cover for every disruption.

The building is repaired, but production is still reduced.

Replacement machinery may need installation, testing and staff familiarisation before normal output resumes. Include those stages when considering the potential recovery timeline. A period based only on construction work can overlook the rest of the business’s recovery.

Prepare for your quote

  • Recent accounts, forecasts and the policy’s required financial figures.
  • Key machinery, supplier dependencies and replacement lead times.
  • A realistic recovery plan, including alternative premises.
  • Current property cover, selected indemnity period and seasonal trading.

Your questions, answered

Will it cover any reason my business closes?

No. A claim needs to meet an insured trigger and the terms of the selected cover. Ordinary trading difficulties or an uninsured event should not be assumed to qualify.

Is the indemnity period the same as the policy year?

No. It relates to the period for which a qualifying interruption may be indemnified, subject to the wording. Discuss recovery time separately from the annual renewal date.

Does property insurance automatically include it?

Do not assume so. Check the schedule and relevant sections. Material damage and business interruption should be reviewed together, with cyber-related disruption raised separately.
